Royals hope to end road trip with a win

Hoping to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Red Sox, the Royals couldn't be sending a better person to help them pull out a win. Southpaw Mark Redman will attempt to win his seventh decision in his last nine starts against right-hander Josh Beckett and the Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park.

This will be the last game of the Royals' seven-game road trip before they return to the Midwest for a seven-game homestand. The Royals have lost 10 of their last 11 games against the Red Sox, including two one-run defeats in this series.

Redman, in his first season with the Royals, is unbeaten in his last eight starts and received a no-decision in his last outing, against the Detroit Tigers, allowing four runs and five hits over five innings.

Redman is 2-2 with a 5.51 ERA on the road this season and is 1-7 with a 9.29 ERA against Boston in his career. He is 1-3 with a 9.82 ERA at Fenway in his career.

The Red Sox lead the season series, 2-0.

Pitching matchup
KC: LHP Mark Redman (6-4, 5.38 ERA)
Redman continues to serve as the anchor of the Royals' rotation. Though he didn't dazzle in his last outing, he held firm to an early lead. What he didn't do, however, was pitch as deep into the ballgame as manager Buddy Bell might have liked. Still, nobody can complain much about where Redman left the Royals. And against the Red Sox, Bell will welcome a similar performance.

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (11-5, 5.12 ERA)
Beckett was lit up against Oakland last Friday, suffering his first loss at Fenway Park this season. He gave up seven runs, eight hits and walked four batters over 4 1/3 innings. Beckett has given up a Major League-high 27 home runs this season.

Player to watch
Third baseman Mark Teahen, the only member of the Royals to get a hit on Tuesday night, has gone 3-for-7 with two runs scored in this series.
