The Royals assigned infielders Joaquin Arias and Lance Zawadzki to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Arias, 26, was picked up in a waiver claim earlier this offseason, but with tight roster constraints, he was designated for assignment on Dec. 19. The infielder began last season as a member of the Rangers before being sent to the Mets as part of the Jeff Francoeur trade. Between the two clubs, Arias hit .258 and drove in 13 runs in 72 games.
Zawadzki, also claimed off waivers, was designated on Dec. 17 after the Royals' signing of Melky Cabrera. The 25-year-old made his way up through the Padres' Minor League system before being claimed by the Royals. He hit .225 between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland last season.
