Cubs at the plate: Ryan Theriot and Jake Fox accounted for four of Chicago's eight hits, with Theriot driving in a run with a groundout in the seventh and Fox belting a two-run home run in the ninth. Doubles by Buck Coats and Mark DeRosa plated the other Cubs runs.

Royals at the plate: Ryan Shealy went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. David DeJesus started the fifth inning with a solo home run, Shealy added an RBI single and Alex Gonzalez contributed a two-run double as the Royals scored four times against Mark Prior. Gonzalez finished with two hits, and Esteban German stole two bases.

Cubs on the mound: Ted Lilly started and gave up a run on three hits in three innings. Prior, who followed Lilly, had a much rougher afternoon as the Royals rocked the right-hander for four earned runs on as many hits in two innings. Prior, who never topped 88 mph with any of his pitches, walked three and did not record any strikeouts.

Royals on the mound: Jorge De La Rosa allowed one run on a pair of hits in three innings in the left-hander's second outing of the spring. Carlos Rosa registered 94 mph on the radar indicator with his fastball and only allowed an infield single, but was charged with a run when the runner later scored.

Cactus League records: Cubs 5-5; Royals 6-5

Up next: The Royals go back on the road Sunday when they travel to Tucson to take on the Colorado Rockies at Hi Corbett Field. Joakim Soria will start against the Rockies and Jimmy Gobble, Jason Standridge, Joel Peralta, Roberto Giron and Jason Shiell are also scheduled to pitch. The Rockies plan to pitch Josh Fogg, Byung-Hyun Kim, LaTroy Hawkins and Denny Bautista. The Cubs will host the Brewers at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, with right-hander Claudio Vargas the probable starter for Milwaukee against Cubs right-hander Jason Marquis.
