Royals overcome Giants' power

Giants at the plate: Ray Durham hit his first two home runs of the season. He led off the second with a homer and hit a solo shot with one out in the fourth. Barry Bonds hit his third Spring Training home run in the sixth. Todd Linden, Lance Niekro and Rich Aurilia all hit solo shots as the Giants hit six home runs.

Royals at the plate: Mike Sweeney drove in three runs. He stroked a two-run single down the right-field line in the first inning and had an RBI double in the seventh to put the Royals ahead. Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 and is 12-for-22 in his past 10 games.

Giants on the mound: Barry Zito gave up two runs and four hits in the first inning, but nothing after that. Zito walked one and struck out five in four innings. Vinnie Chulk surrendered three runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings with one strikeout and one walk.

Royals on the mound: Jorge De La Rosa allowed two runs on three hits, two of them home runs to Durham, in four innings. He walked none and struck out three. David Riske yielded one run on one hit and struck out two in one inning.

Cactus League records: Giants 9-8; Royals 8-8

Up next: Joakim Soria and Brian Bannister will pitch for the Royals on Friday against the Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex. Miguel Batista will start for the Mariners. Matt Cain will start for the Giants against the Rockies at Scottsdale Stadium. Byung-Hyun Kim will start for the Rockies.
