Diamondbacks at the plate: Conor Jackson hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Brian Barden belted a two-run homer in the sixth and also doubled, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Chris Snyder stroked a two-run double off the right-center-field wall in the four-run Arizona fourth.

Royals at the plate: Esteban German singled in his first two at-bats. Ross Gload contributed a single and double and also stole a base. Jason LaRue also had two hits. Alex Gordon walked twice.

Diamondbacks on the mound: Dustin Nippert permitted three runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings, while walking three and striking out two. Left-hander Bill Murphy struck out two and allowed one hit and no runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Royals on the mound: Gil Meche worked three innings, plus six batters, giving up four runs on six hits, including a home run. He walked three and struck out four. Joel Peralta allowed two runs on three hits in two innings, while walking no one and striking out one.

Cactus League records: Diamondbacks 12-5; Royals 8-10
