Royals, A's - rained out in fourth inning

Royals at the plate: Kansas City scored twice in the second inning on consecutive doubles by Mike Sweeney and Alex Gordon and a single by Emil Brown. Gordon and Brown each had two hits before the game was called off during the second rain delay. Jason LaRue picked up an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, and Andres Blanco followed with an RBI walk. The bases were loaded, with the Royals leading 4-2 with one out in the fourth, when the game was stopped for good.

A's at the plate: Jason Kendall singled, took third on a single by Shannon Stewart and scored on a sacrifice fly by Milton Bradley in the first inning. Stewart doubled and scored on a Bradley single in the third.

Royals on the mound: Righty starter Jorge De La Rosa gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over three innings.

A's on the mound: Lefty starter Joe Kennedy gave up four runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.

Cactus League records: Royals 9-12; A's 11-10-1

Up next: A's righty Dan Haren will square off with righty Justin Germano of the visiting Padres in a 1:05 p.m. MT start Friday at Phoenix Muni. Also Friday at 1:05 p.m., Royals righty Gil Meche will start against righty Livan Hernandez and the host Diamondbacks in Tucson.
