Teahen stars in victory over Padres

Padres at the plate: Khalil Greene extended his hitting streak to 12 games with two singles. He's now hitting .440 this spring. Pitcher Clay Hensley knocked in a run with a fielder's choice and Geoff Blum spanked an RBI single to left field in the third inning. Reserve catcher Pete Laforest added two singles.

Royals at the plate: Mark Teahen jumped on a first-pitch fastball from Hensley in the first inning for his third home run of the spring. He would later drive in a run with an RBI single. The Royals also got an RBI single from Jason LaRue in the fifth inning.

Padres on the mound: Clay Hensley wasn't as sharp as he's been in his previous starts, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with four walks in five innings, though his ERA climbed to just 2.00 for the spring. Righty Kevin Cameron continued to impress. He tossed two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one walk. Reliever Andrew Brown allowed a run on three hits in an inning. His spring ERA stands at 13.50. Justin Hampson tossed a scoreless eighth inning, his first action since March 11.

Royals on the mound: Starting pitcher Brandon Duckworth allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He even added a single in the fourth inning. Jimmy Gobble threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings as did Ryan Braun. Todd Wellemeyer went 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run.

Cactus League records: Padres 13-12-1; Royals 10-15.

Up next: The Padres will visit the Rangers in Surprise on Tuesday. Greg Maddux makes the start for San Diego. The Royals are in Mesa against the Cubs. Jorge De La Rosa will start for Kansas City.
