Teahen rips first spring homer for KC

Rockies at the plate: Brad Hawpe pounded a two-run homer in a three-run third inning. Hawpe also had two singles and drew a bases-loaded walk, giving him a club-high eight RBIs this spring. Matt Kata and Jayson Nix each hit a home run in the fifth. Clint Barmes banged two doubles, and Todd Helton had two singles and two RBIs.

Royals at the plate: Mark Teahen, who had a sore forearm and sat out three games, cracked a two-run homer to dead center off lefty Chris George. Esteban German lined a two-run single. Leadoff man David DeJesus drew two walks and scored both times.

Rockies on the mound: With Aaron Cook scratched because of a sore right shoulder, Kip Wells started, went four innings and gave up three runs on three hits, walked three and hit a batter. George and Darren Clarke each yielded two runs in one inning.

Royals on the mound: Brian Bannister had his second rough outing, giving up five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Kyle Davies allowed two homers and gave up three runs in three innings. Jimmy Gobble issued three walks in the ninth.

Cactus League records: Royals 5-4; Rockies 4-5.

Up next: Left-handers John Bale and Jorge De La Rosa, contending for a rotation spot, will be the first two Royals pitchers against the Milwaukee Brewers at 2:05 p.m. CT on Saturday at Maryvale Ballpark. Ryan Braun and Chi-hui Tsao also are scheduled to pitch. The Brewers plan to throw two ex-Royals, starter Jeff Suppan and reliever David Riske, along with Guillermo Mota and Randy Choate.
