Olivo showed signs of discomfort after backing away from an inside fastball thrown by Texas Rangers right-hander Elizardo Ramirez. Olivo struck out and was replaced by Matt Tupman.
"Right now, it's evaluated as a possible strain. He's tender in the groin area and we'll go day-to-day and see how he is," manager Trey Hillman said.
Olivo is the Royals' backup to catcher John Buck and this was his 10th Cactus League game. He's batting .296 (8-for-27).
Right fielder Jose Guillen, who was pulled from the lineup on Thursday because of the flu, reported to the clubhouse on Friday morning. He was given medicine and sent home again.
The Royals have not released the results of the examination performed on second baseman Mark Grudzielanek's. He was sent to Kansas City and was to be examined on Friday by team physician Dr. Steve Joyce.
