Minor League pitcher Santiago granted release
KANSAS CITY -- Minor League pitcher Mario Santiago was granted his release by the Royals on Wednesday so he can sign with a Korean team.
Santiago, a 27-year-old right-hander, had a combined record of 8-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 35 games (11 starts) last season for Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
He planned to sign with SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization. A product of Puerto Rico, Santiago was selected by the Royals in 2005 in the 16th round of the First-Year Player Draft.
