Sanchez, Mendoza get results vs. prospects
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Left-hander Jonathan Sanchez and right-hander Luis Mendoza, two of the Royals' starting pitchers, had tuneups against in-camp Minor Leaguers in the last two days.

Sanchez pitched on Thursday, as the Royals had him skip their Cactus League game against the Angels, a team that he'll face in the season's third game on April 8.

"Quite well," manager Ned Yost said. "He overmatched 'em. He threw 6 2/3 innings, no runs, 10 strikeouts, no walks. The important thing is no walks."

Mendoza did his work on Friday, giving up one run on seven hits in five innings. He also had no walks with eight strikeouts.

Sanchez is lined up to pitch in an exhibition game against the Padres on Tuesday night at San Diego with Mendoza facing them the next day at Lake Elsinore, Calif. Mendoza will start the season's fourth game on April 9 at Oakland.
