SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Alex Gordon long-term contract became official when he passed the required physical examination on
Saturday, the Royals announced.
Gordon was held out of Saturday's game against the D-backs so he could undergo the examination. The left fielder is a hard-working fitness enthusiast, but he has had injuries in the past, including surgery on his right hip in 2009.
On Friday, the Royals and Gordon announced an agreement on a four-year guaranteed contract worth $37.5 million plus a player option of $12.5 million for 2016. Passing a physical was part of the deal.
