CHICAGO -- The Royals have signed veteran left-hander Doug Davis to a Minor League contract, the club announced on Saturday.

Davis will report to extended spring training to get into pitching shape before being assigned to Triple-A Omaha.

Davis, 36, made nine starts for the Cubs last season, going 1-7 with a 6.50 ERA before being released in June. He finished the season in the White Sox organization, going 2-5 with a 2.60 ERA in nine Triple-A starts.

Davis has pitched for the Rangers, Blue Jays, Brewers, D-backs and Cubs in his 13 Major League seasons, going 92-108 with a 4.44 ERA.
