"No secret weapons," Davies said, "Just pretty much throwing strikes."
That's something he couldn't do in his last outing against the Twins. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings and gave up five walks while running up 69 pitches, just 36 of them strikes.
"But I had been throwing strikes pretty good the last five or six starts. So I'll just kind of back up, forget about the last one, and go forward. That's about all you can do," he said.
The poor performance against the Twins followed back-to-back victories.
"It's going to happen, but it's unacceptable," Davies said. "You have to look at what you did and get better from it. That's what you have to do as a starting pitcher."
So he'll get back to basics against the White Sox, a team he beat on Aug. 2 in Kansas City.
"Make it as simple as possible," he said. "Stop thinking so much. When you go out there and make it a little more complicated than it has to be, then it's not good."Pitching matchup
KC: RHP Kyle Davies (5-3, 4.66 ERA)
After two straight wins, Davies had a terrible outing against the Twins on Friday night. He served up five walks and three hits, resulting in three runs, before being lifted after 2 1/3 innings. It might have been worse, but he escaped after walking the bases full in the second inning. Control is Davies' ongoing problem, but he'd made progress before this relapse. He's faced the White Sox twice this season with no decision on July 8 and a win on Aug. 2. In 11 innings, he's allowed them six runs. CWS: RHP Lance Broadway (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Guillen waited until Wednesday to announce that Broadway would get the nod for Thursday's finale against Kansas City. Broadway will be making his first start of the season and second of his career. He faced Kansas City in his lone start last season, pitching six shutout innings to earn his first Major League win. Crown Points
