Royals make yet another roster move

KANSAS CITY -- Another day, another roster move.

For the fourth day in a row, injuries forced the Royals to make a roster move. Third baseman Alex Gordon went on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain. Alberto Callaspo will take his place on the roster and start at second base. Mark Teahan will make his second consecutive start in Gordon's place at third.

Callaspo had been on a three-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha. He had been on the DL since June 28 for undisclosed medical reasons. Before going on the DL he had been hitting .290 in 100 at bats.

The Royals began their roster version of musical chairs on Wednesday when Luke Hochevar suffered a rib cage contusion. Mike Maier followed on Thursday when he was hit by a pitch and broke three bones around his eye. Ron Mahay joined them Friday after a recurrence of plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
