Royals add Barrera to 40-man roster
KANSAS CITY -- Right-handed pitcher Henry Barrera was added to the Royals' 40-man roster on Thursday, the deadline for finalizing reserve lists prior to the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 11.
Barrera, who'll be 23 on Tuesday, was a reliever last summer for Class A Wilmington. He had 78 strikeouts and 24 walks in 42 relief appearances that spanned 57 2/3 innings. Barrera had a 2.81 ERA, an 0-3 record and four saves.
To make room, the Royals designated for assignment left-handed pitcher Tyler Lumsden. He was 3-13 with a 7.21 ERA in 28 games (18 starts) for Triple-A Omaha. Lumdsen came to the Royals with pitcher Dan Cortes in the 2006 trade that sent Mike MacDougal to the White Sox.
