Cain misses BP due to minor injury

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Center fielder Lorenzo Cain was held out of batting practice on Sunday due to a minor injury to his right hand.

"He hurt it three or four days ago doing one-hand swings," manager Ned Yost said. "He had a little inflammation and when he took some swings, he felt it, so we held him out. It's nothing serious."

Cain is trying to avoid the injury bug, which limited him to only 61 games last season. His problems came in the form of three different leg injuries.

"He's worked diligently all winter long on his legs," Yost said. "He's worked with running coaches to improve his gait. ... They've worked really hard on increasing the strength on the front sides so the back sides don't have to take all that pressure and just balance his legs out, so to speak. We'll see how it works. We really need him to be healthy."
