Moustakas returns as Escobar still sits

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Third baseman Mike Moustakas was back in the Royals' lineup on Wednesday while shortstop Alcides Escobar took a second day off.

Moustakas missed Tuesday's game against the Athletics because of a bruised right foot, caused by his own foul ball. Escobar remained out with a stiff back, although he underwent chiropractic treatment.

Elliot Johnson, a top candidate for a reserve spot, played shortstop for the second straight day. He led off the sixth with a triple and scored the go-ahead run in the Royals' 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Moustakas was 1-for-2 and is hitting .455 (15-for-33).

Non-roster first baseman Xavier Nady came out of the game after getting an RBI single in his only at-bat. He's fighting plantar fasciitis, a tissue inflammation of the foot.
