"I can almost hear Fred White's voice and he is saying thanks for listening all these years," the Royals broadcast began. "Thank you for all the support. Thank you for all the kind words today about him and his family. And he's probably also saying, 'Hey, let's get to the ballgame.'
"So, as we mourn him, as we honor him, instead of a moment of silence, we will begin -- for Fred White -- a half-inning of silence."
With a picture serving as tribute to White in the bottom right corner of the screen throughout the half-inning, the Royals were held scoreless in the frame.
On Tuesday, the club announced White's retirement as director of broadcast services and Royals Alumni, citing health reasons. He passed away shortly thereafter in hospice care.
