Brett, asked about the Royals at a golf course by the local NBC station, had some strong language bleeped out, named several radio and television talk show hosts and said in part: "They don't know what they're talking about sometimes and I'm sick and tired of listening to it."
Hillman, on an open date, happened to see the interview.
"You always like support and, obviously, it was very supportive of what I bring to the table as a manager. More importantly, the support for our organization," Hillman said. "This community is so passionate, people want to see it happen all at one time and George, as a baseball man, has a pretty good feel for the process that we're going through."
Hillman said he called Brett afterward and discussed the matter.
Brett is the Royals' vice president-baseball operations and helps Hillman as a coach during Spring Training.
