Royals in the Community

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 22, 2013) - The Kansas City Royals, together with pitcher James Shields and KCP&L, celebrate the debut of the Big Game James Section on Friday, May 24. Local foster children and their families will be treated to a special night at the ballpark through the program. 
 
In addition, the Royals will host special 50/50 Raffles and in-stadium collections for American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help tornado victims in Oklahoma. Concourse auctions hosted by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association will also occur every day of the upcoming extended weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels and two-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals, plus other events listed below.

Thursday, May 23 - Los Angeles Angels vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - Royals Charities is hosting a 50/50 Raffle for every Royals home game in 2013, giving fans more chances to win big! Royals Charities staffers will sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. During the Angels series, the other half will be directed to the American Red Cross for tornado relief. www.royals.com/5050. 
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.
  • In-Stadium Collection for Tornado Relief: American Red Cross volunteers will be collecting cash donations at the Royals Charities Headquarters located on the third base side of the KIA Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level.

Friday, May 24 - Los Angeles Angels vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Big Game James Section - Pitcher James Shields, together with the Royals and KCP&L, will host foster care children and their families in the Big Game James Section. Each child will receive complimentary tickets in section 206, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMRARK and Papa John's Pizza. Guests will also participate in a meet and greet with Shields prior to the game. Fans who purchase tickets in section 206 on the designated Big Game James Section nights will also receive a "Big Game James" t-shirt courtesy of KCP&L in support of the program.

  • Stars of the Classroom - The Royals join the Missouri Lottery to honor outstanding educators through the Missouri Lottery Stars of the Classroom recognition program. Prior to six Royals games throughout the season, the Missouri Lottery and the Royals celebrate the achievements of top teachers from six school districts in the metro area.

Saturday, May 25 - Los Angeles Angels vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Royals Troopers - The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program. The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the Royals game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.

  • Welcome Back Veterans - The Royals, together with Major League Baseball Charities, Major League Baseball Advanced Media and the McCormick Foundation, support Welcome Back Veterans, an initiative designed to raise awareness and provide support for our veterans as they transition back to civilian life.
