The Royals are bringing up catcher Adam Moore from Triple-A Omaha during Perez's absence. Moore is hitting .190 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 24 games for the Storm Chasers.
Moore got into four games for the Royals last September and hit a home run in his first at-bat. Overall he was 2-for-11 (.182).
Perez was sitting out Saturday's game, giving his bruised right hip a chance to heal further, when he learned of his grandmother's passing. He left immediately for Venezuela.
He had been expected to return to the lineup on Sunday in the series finale against the Angels.
