Duffy earns Minor League pitching honors

KANSAS CITY - A trio of Royals earned player of the week honors in the Minor Leagues this past week.

Lefty Danny Duffy, who was recently optioned to the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers, was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 24-30, while Brooks Pounders of Double-A Northwest Arkansas earned the same distinction in the Texas League. Pounders' teammate, Whit Merrifield, earned offensive Player of the Week honors.

Duffy, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, went 2-0 in 10 2/3 innings allowing just five hits and striking out 11 in his two starts.

Pounders tossed a no-hitter last Thursday night against Midland. He had six strikeouts with no walks.

Merrifield went 11-for-16 with three doubles and nine RBIs during the week.
