Legends' Stumpf fires no-hitter in Class A tilt

On the same night Reds right-hander Homer Bailey tossed a no-hitter, Royals prospect Daniel Stumpf did just the same, tossing a no-no on Tuesday for Class A Lexington.

Facing just one batter over the minimum for the Legends, Stumpf mowed down the Greenville Drive, pitching the second complete-game no-hitter in team history as Lexington prevailed, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

"There are no words to describe how I felt out there," Stumpf said. "I've been in the fifth inning with no hits before, but they would end up piecing a few hits together and getting three or four hits.

"I got out of the bullpen from throwing and said I didn't feel too hot, so my game plan was to just keep the ball down and hit my spots. Catcher Cameron Gallagher called a great game and I just battled the whole game."

Selected in the ninth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, Stumpf walked one batter and struck out three. He needed only 87 minutes to go seven innings.
