MINNEAPOLIS -- Catcher Brett Hayes' power surge has been recognized by the Pacific Coast League.
Hayes hit a combined six home runs in four games for Triple-A Omaha against New Orleans to win the PCL's Player of the Week honors. He had at least one blast in each game, including a walk-off solo shot in the 10th inning last Thursday. He was the first Omaha player to have six homers in one series since Craig Brazell in 2007.
Three other Royals farm hands also won honors last week: Third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert of Northwest Arkansas was Texas League Player of the Week. Rated the Royals' No. 9 prospect by MLB.com, Cuthbert hit .421 with seven RBIs. Idaho Falls had the Pioneer League's top player, Daniel Rocket, .348 with seven RBIs, and top pitcher, Luis Santos, with a one-hitter and seven strikeouts.
