KANSAS CITY, MO (December 23, 2013) - The Kansas City Royals medical staff has been named the 2013 Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), president Richie Bancells announced. The award is presented annually to one Major League Athletic Training staff and is voted on by the full PBATS membership.

Royals head athletic trainer Nick Kenney and assistant athletic trainer Kyle Turner accepted the award on behalf of the Kansas City medical staff at the recently completed Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.

"We're extremely proud of Nick Kenney and our medical team. They are very gifted people, who are very skilled at what they do. They create a great environment, which helps everyone succeed, and are very proactive in keeping our players on the field," said Royals Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations/General Manager Dayton Moore.

"I also want to thank Dr. (Vincent) Key and the medical team from the KU Med Center for all of their support. This is a terrific honor for our entire organization."
