Brett Tomko celebrated his 41st birthday by tossing 6.0 strong innings as Omaha won the opener over Memphis. Tomko scattered four hits and three walks, allowing one run. Spencer Patton fanned three over 2.0 innings for his first Triple-A save. Johnny Giavotella was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Paulo Orlando added three hits and an RBI, while Matt Fields hit his first Triple-A home run.

The former Indiana State Sycamore was selected 34th overall in the 2013 June Free Agent Draft. He is listed as KC's number five prospect by MLB.com.
