DeJesus, Betancourt sit out finale

MINNEAPOLIS -- Shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and left fielder David DeJesus were not in the Royals' lineup for Sunday's season finale against the Twins.

DeJesus returned from a week-long bout with a virus on Friday and has not played. Betancourt fouled a ball off his left foot in Friday's 10-7 loss to Minnesota.

"I was hopeful that David would be able to play in one of these games, but his body is just too weak from being sick," manager Trey Hillman said. "So we're better off not forcing anything with him and running into an injury.

"Yuni's foot is pretty sore. We can use him in an emergency situation, and I guess we can use David in an emergency situation, too."

Luis Hernandez took Betancourt's place despite a deep contusion on his right quad. That came in the eighth inning Friday night when, after replacing the injured Betancourt, he was drilled by a pitch thrown by Twins reliever Jose Mijares.

Hillman thought Hernandez moved well enough in Saturday's game to warrant keeping him in the lineup. Willie Bloomquist again took DeJesus' spot in left field and as the leadoff hitter.
