In the seventh, the Angels plated their second and third runs on a two-strike, two-run single by David Freese against reliever Kelvin Herrera. C.J. Cron then lined a single to right. Lorenzo Cain came up firing, and Pujols, coming from second base, was ruled out by umpire Mike Muchlinski on a tag by catcher Salvador Perez.
After review, the call stood and the inning was over. Scioscia is 7-7 in challenges this season.
Earlier, Royals manager Ned Yost challenged an out call made by second-base umpire Andy Fletcher on a first-inning steal attempt by Jarrod Dyson. After review, the call on the field also stood.
Dyson made a head-first slide and beat the throw to shortstop Erick Aybar. As Dyson's hand came off the bag, he tried to get his foot on it, but Aybar tagged him just before he could.
Yost is 5-4 on challenges this season, but has lost the past two, both in this series.
