Royals win challenge on overturned safe call

TORONTO -- The Royals dropped a 4-0 decision to the Blue Jays, but they won a challenge in the eighth inning on Sunday.

Third baseman Mike Moustakas fielded Brett Lawrie's bouncer behind the bag and threw to Eric Hosmer at first base where umpire Angel Hernandez ruled the Blue Jays runner safe.

Royals manager Ned Yost challenged the call and, after an instant replay review in New York, his judgment was verified. The call was overturned for the third out.

Yost credited his replay coordinator, Bill Duplissea, with giving him quick information from his spot in front of the TV monitor.

"I called Billy and Billy said he was out," Yost said.

"He's on everything. He's not afraid to make a call, he's not afraid to challenge it. The whole thing is, you try not to screw up the pace of the game so I try to have my answer before I go out there. ... Today, I made it like halfway there and said I want to challenge it, and try to save as much time [as I can]."

That made Yost 7-5 in challenges under the new replay system.
