Royals trade lefty Joseph to Marlins for cash

KANSAS CITY -- After two brief stints in the Majors, left-handed pitcher Donnie Joseph was sent to the Miami Marlins for cash.

Joseph was up twice with the Royals this year but pitched in just one game, giving up six runs on five hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning on June 16 at Detroit. Last year, he pitched in six games and had a 0.00 ERA in 5 2/3 innings.

He had been designated for assignment on June 24.

Joseph, 26, and pitcher J.C. Sulbaran were acquired from Cincinnati on July 31, 2012, in exchange for pitcher Jonathan Broxton. That was the deal that made Greg Holland the Royals' full-time closer.
