He has a 2.74 ERA (7 ER in 23.0 IP) with the Naturals. Mitch Maier made his season debut, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. The veteran spent parts of six Major League seasons with the Royals. Third-ranked Royals prospect Jorge Bonifacio added three hits, an RBI and a run. Micah Gibbs had two doubles and two RBI.

Blake Wood (2.0 IP), John Walter (2.2 IP) and Mark Peterson (1.1 IP) completed the shutout. Jack Lopez was 2-for-4, scoring the lone run in the first.
