PHOENIX -- Catcher Brett Hayes has decided to stay in the Royals' organization, accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha.

Hayes was designated for assignment on July 28 when the Royals obtained catcher Erik Kratz from the Blue Jays in a trade.

In 27 games as Salvador Perez's backup, Hayes hit .135 with one home run and two RBIs.
