Royals Take Part in Several Programs

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 21, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals return home Monday for a ten-game homestand against the New York Yankees (August 25), Minnesota Twins (August 26-28), Cleveland Indians (August 29-31) and Texas Rangers (September 1-3). During the homestand, the Royals will take part in many programs at Kauffman Stadium including a Big Brothers/Big Sisters Meet and Greet (August 26), Dream Factory (August 27, September 3), a cell phone recycling event (August 28) and Big Game James Section (August 29). Following the homestand, Royals Charities will host the fifth annual T.A.K.E. Defense class (September 6). Please see below for more information. 

Monday, August 25 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

  • Royals To Honor Jeter - Before the makeup game against the Yankees, the Royals will salute the stellar playing career of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. The game marks the last regular-season contest at Kauffman Stadium for Jeter, who is retiring at the end of the 2014 season. Royals Charities, the charitable arm of the Royals, will present Jeter with a $10,000 donation to his Turn 2 Foundation during a special pregame ceremony which will also feature a video tribute to the Yankees captain.

Tuesday, August 26 - Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Hosmer Big Brothers/Big Sisters Meet & Greet - During batting practice, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will meet children and mentors involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Greater Kansas City. Hosmer serves as a spokesperson for BBBS and hosted a recruiting event for "Bigs" earlier this year.

Wednesday, August 27- Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, August 28 - Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Cell Phone Recycling Event - The Royals are partnering with Ericsson and Sprint on a phone recycle event to give fans a simple and convenient way to recycle old cell phones and accessories in exchange for Royals tickets and a Sprint store credit (on eligible phones) of up to $300. Fans who turn over their old phone at the Sprint Store at Prairiefire, located at 6285 W. 135th St. in Overland Park, Kan., from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. will receive two free Royals tickets to an upcoming 2014 home game. One set of tickets will be distributed per fan while supplies last. In addition, Sluggerrr will make a special appearance to greet fans from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Royals will host another phone recycling event at the Sprint Store located at the Legends Outlets on September 12. Friday, August 29 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Big Game James Section - Pitcher James Shields, together with the Royals and KCP&L, will host foster care children and their families in the Big Game James Section. Each child from Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association will receive complimentary tickets in section 206, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMARK and Papa John's Pizza. The special guests will also participate in a meet-and-greet with Shields prior to the game.
  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A portion of the proceeds from the nightly Royals Charities fundraiser will benefit Charlie's House. www.royals.com/5050.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Saturday, August 30 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

  • Lorenzo Cain Appearance at Rally House - Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain will make a special appearance at the Rally House in Independence, Mo., from 11 a.m.-noon. Fans can meet the outfielder at the free session and get up to two items autographed per person.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Sunday, August 31 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:07 p.m.

  • Royals Alumni Autograph Session - Fans have the opportunity to meet former Royals prior to each Sunday home game in the Royals Hall of Fame. Two Royals Alumni members will sign autographs for fans from 6:15 p.m. to game time.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

  • T.A.K.E. Defense Class - Women from all over Kansas City are invited to take part in the free T.A.K.E. Defense class held on the field at Kauffman Stadium.
