Flynn dealing with groin strain after callup

The Royals needed some long-relief help after Sunday's loss to the Indians used up long man Onelki Garcia (5 2/3 innings). So on Monday, the club recalled left-hander Brian Flynn from Triple-A Omaha prior to a 12-0 loss to the Rays.

Flynn resides in Owasso, Okla. in the offseason...Selected in the 18th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by Boston, but did not sign...Pitched two seasons (2009, 2011) at Wichita State, taking a redshirt year in 2010…posted a 6-4 record with a 4.28 ERA in 20 appearances (11 starts) with three complete games during his final collegiate season...Graduated from Owasso High School (Okla.), where he was named all-conference, Metro Pitcher of the Year, all-state, preseason All-America and Louisville Slugger All-America.

Began third professional season with Double-A Jacksonville before being promoted to Triple-A and eventually the Major League club in Miami. At Minor League level, combined to go 7-12 with 2.63 ERA (161.0 IP/47 ER) in 27 starts. Led Pacific Coast League in ERA (2.80), ranked fourth in WHIP (1.21) and sixth in strikeouts (122). Made four starts with Jacksonville to start season, going 1-1 with 1.57 ERA (23.0/4) prior to earning promotion to New Orleans on April 26. Allowed just three walks compared to 25 strikeouts in 23.0 innings with Suns. With Jacksonville, won first decision of season on April 4 vs. Jackson. Allowed just four hits over 6.0 scoreless innings while retiring a season-high nine by strikeout. Made first career Triple-A start on April 27 at Oklahoma City, allowing four runs on five hits over 5.1 innings. Opened 2012 season at Single-A Lakeland in Detroit Tigers' system, posting an 8-4 record and 3.71 ERA (102.0/42) in 18 starts. Participated in Arizona Fall League, going 1-3 with a 3.63 ERA (22.1/9) in seven starts for Phoenix Desert Dogs.
