To make room for rookie right-hander Luke Farrell to make his Major League debut Saturday against the Twins, the Royals cleared space on the 40-man roster by designating right-handed reliever Seth Maness for assignment.

Graduated from Pinecrest (N.C.) High School in 2007...was first team all-state and Mid-Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in baseball as a high school sophomore...earned three letters in baseball and one in basketball and was rated by Impact Baseball as one of the top-40 players in North Carolina...played college baseball at East Carolina University where he earned first team all-Conference USA four consecutive years and Pitcher of the Year in 2010...named Baseball America freshman first team all-American...ranks first all-time at East Carolina in wins (38), strikeouts (334), starts (61), innings pitched (411.2) and hits allowed (429)...pitched 10.0 innings vs. Rutgers (3/18/11), T2nd longest by a Conference USA pitcher...graduated with a degree in accounting in May is pronounced MAY-niss...resides in West End, N.C.
